TROY, Ala - The Troy Trojans (2-7, 1-4) will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when they host Florida Atlantic (0-9, 0-6) in the final home contest of the season.
The game is set to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Trojans and Owls have met eight times in the past, with Troy dominating the series, 7-1. Their only loss to the Owls came in 2007 at home.
Troy enters Saturday's matchup as losers of their last five games, with their most recent to North Texas. With their most recent loss 33-38, the Trojans were eliminated from bowl eligibility.
“Credit to North Texas, they did enough to win the game. They were looking for a win like we were but they were able to pull it off and we weren't” Head coach Larry Blakeney stated.
Florida Atlantic, led by head coach Howard Schnellenberger, comes to Troy as the only winless team in the Sun Belt. Troy, however, is not going to overlook any opponent this season.
“I wish I could find somebody where we could watch their tape and know we were going to win.” said Blakeney, “I don't think we're into overlooking. We have three games left, two of the last three are teams that are in the hunt for the championship. We would be stupid to overlook this bunch.”
Defensive Tackle Tony Davis is not overlooking Florida Atlantic, either.
“They have to come and play just like we do. They're record is not appealing but neither is ours, but they're also going to fight for their coach so they will have an attitude about them,” Davis added.
Despite losing to North Texas, Troy did make strides in their game.
“I thought Corey was more confident and aggressive with his throws. He was 27-of-39 which is not a bad day, if you win,” Blakeney said.
Corey Robinson tied a career high with four touchdown passes in last week's loss.
Coach Blakeney has motivated the team and is looking to snap their losing streak this weekend.
“You have to take the next best thing which is winning the next game and winning out,” Blakeney said. “We have about three guys across the board who have started before this season, so we're a very young team. That may be an excuse but we do analyze these things. Excuses are not what we need to be discussing, we need to be discussing how to get better and how to win.”
The defense is also looking to make strides this weekend after going two consecutive games without a sack.
The Trojans are looking to rebound as a unit this weekend, as 17 student-athletes will be honored as a part of Troy's Senior Day festivities, against an opponent that hasn't had much success against Troy. All these ingredients create a recipe for a win.
“Anytime you have a game at home, we have recruits in here and people here who we want to leave a positive impression on,” Blakeney states.
