Trojans Open at Texas Tech

TROY, Ala. – After an exhibition win on Monday night, the Troy men's basketball team tips off its regular season schedule on Friday night at Texas Tech.
The Trojans and Red Raiders are set to tip-off at 8:30 p.m. inside the United Spirit Arena. The game can be heard on the Troy IMG Sports Network with Chuck Heinz calling the action. Fans in Troy can hear the broadcast on the network's flagship station, WTBF-FM 94.7.
Trojan fans from across all of South Alabama can hear the call on either WABB-AM 1480 in Mobile or WOOF-AM 560 in Dothan. Live stats and live audio are also available at the above links.

After their match-up with the Red Raiders, the Trojans return home to take on LaGrange on Sunday is what is the second half of a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. The women's basketball team will kick the day off at 1:00 p.m. when they host Winthrop.

TROY at TEXAS TECH STORYLINES
- The Trojans open their 30th season under head coach Don Maestri, who is one of just four coaches with 30+ years at his current school. Associate head coach David Felix is taking it one step further. Felix is set to start his 31st year.
- Troy is looking to gain valuable on-court experience for a squad that consists of nine newcomers and just four players with Division I playing experience.
- The Trojans return just three players from last year's team. Those three have a combined four letters for the Trojans.
- The Trojans do return All-Sun Belt point guard Will Weathers who led the league a season ago with 6.6 apg and 1.9 spg. The 6.6 apg also placed Weathers sixth in the nation.
- The Trojans are coming off of an exhibition win over West Alabama on Monday night, 84-67. Five Trojans scored in double figures while Troy's pressing style forced 28 turnovers.
- Troy's new emphasis on offensive rebounding also showed itself on Monday night as the Trojans grabbed 22 offensive boards from the Tigers.
- The Trojans and Red Raiders have never met on the basketball court. Troy is 0-3 all-time against in the Big 12 with the last contest being a 64-60 loss at Kansas State to open the season in 2001-02.
- The Red Raiders are playing their first regular season game under new head coach Billy Gillispie who has a combined seven seasons of head coaching experience at UTEP, Texas A&M and Kentucky.
- The Trojans return home on Sunday when they officially open the 50th and final season at Sartain Hall against LaGrange.
