The Trojan's finished their first two rounds today with a team score of 306 for the first round and 313 for the second. This left the Trojan's in the 8th position out of 14 teams.
As the day went on from the first round to the second the wind picked up. It took a toll on the teams. The girl's team feels good about going into the third round because Old Fort Golf Club sets up very similarly to Troy Country Club.
Old Fort Golf Club has elevated greens and a visually open lay out.
The team leader, senior Haley Lawrence, motivates the girls to stay focused.
“Off the tee, it is important for us to stay focused. The course looks open, but it is easy to loose sight of a small target. We cannot take this course for granted,” comments Lawrence.
“I told the girls tonight, the tournament doesn't start until the last nine holes. If we can grind it out, then I think we can really finish well as a team in this tournament,” says Lawrence.
Lawrence also leads the team by example. She is tied for second place in the Blue Raider's Invitational with a total of 147. She fired a 73, 74.
“I plan to go out for the third round, and play shot by shot. I also want to apply my own advice- finishing strong on the final nine holes.”
Sofia Bjorkman was the second lowest total for the women's team. She shot a 76, 79.
“I changed putters for this tournament because I had been struggling on the greens,” comments Bjorkman. “I took a lot of double-bogeys for these two rounds. I am going to continue working on my putting and it will be better this next round.”
The Trojans have one more round for the fall season. They will have a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.
