Former Trojan Nick Ward will serve as a student assistant coach this season.
Trojans Complete Coaching Staff for 2012

Head Coach Bobby Pierce completed his coaching staff for 2012 with the hiring of C.J. Wamsley, John Rushing, and Nick Ward.
Wamlsey will be the Trojans' Volunteer Assistant Coach, Rushing will take over duties as the Director of Baseball Operations, and former Trojan pitcher Nick Ward will serve as a student assistant during the 2012 season.
Wamsley comes to Troy from Morehead State, where he served as an Assistant Coach and Camp Coordinator for the Eagles. While at Morehead State, Wamsley coached catcher Taylor Davis who currently plays in the Chicago Cubs organization.
Wamsley has also served as the hitting instructor and 3rd base coach for the Morehead City Marlins of the Coastal Plains League.
During his stint with the Marlins, Wamsley coached the two of the top three hitters (Chase McDonald, East Carolina, and Joe Sclafani, Dartmouth) in the Coastal Plains League. Both were selcted as Summer All-Americans for the play with the Marlins. Wamsley helped coach McDonald to the Offensive Player of the Year Award for the Coastal Plains League.
Wamsley, a four-year letterwinner at Western Kentucky, was a .300 career hitter for the Hilltoppers and participated in two NCAA regionals (2008 – Stillwaters, Okla., 2009, Oxford, Miss.) as well as being apart of two Sun Belt Conference Championship teams (2008, 2009).
Wamsley graduated from WKU in 2009 with a degree in corporate communication.
Prior to playing at WKU, the Ashland, Kemtucky native was a three-year starter at Boyd County High School, earning All-Area selections in two of those three years. Wamsley was also named Section 8 Most Valuable Player and selected to the 2005 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State All- Tournament team.
John Rushing joins the Troy staff and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the program. Rushing comes to Troy from Tuscaloosa Academy, where he served as Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director since 2006.
During his time at Tuscaloosa Academy, Rushing's squads won the area championship twice and advanced to the AISA playoffs five times. Rushing was an assistant coach at Bevill State Community College from 2001-04, where he was a member of the coaching staff that led Bevill State to two ACCC State Championships in 2001 and 2003.
From 2000 to the summer of 2011, Rushing was the head coach of Tuscaloosa Post 34's Senior American Legion Team. During his tenure, Rushing lead Post 34 to the American Legion State Championship Game nine out of his 12 seasons. Post 34 won the State Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.
As the head coach of Post 34, Rushing coached New York Yankees and former Alabama pitcher David Robertson. Currently, eleven former players that Rushing coached at Post 34 in Tuscaloosa are currently playing in Division I or Professional Baseball.
As a coach, Rushing's career record is 494-154-2.
The third and final addition to the 2012 coaching staff is former Trojan pitcher, Nick Ward.
Ward will be a student assistant and will primarily help with the pitchers and assist Coach Brad Philips.
A native of Claremore, Okla., Ward lettered from 2010-2011 and made 36 appearances and seven starts during his career. During his career, Ward posted a record of 5-5, with a 6.65 ERA, striking out 49 in 56 2/3 innings.
