Trojans Looks for Three Straight Wins
GAME NOTES :: LISTEN LIVE :: LIVE VIDEO :: LIVE STATS
The Trojans are trying to keep their momentum going as they hit the road once again, this time to face Middle Tennessee on Thursday night.
Tip-off is set for 7 pm as the Trojans look for three-straight wins for the first time this season. The game can be seen on ESPN3.com or heard on the Troy Sports Network presented by IMG College.
Troy knocked off the Sun Belt's preseason division champ selections in WKU (East) and North Texas (West). The victories were the first and second and the Trojans in conference play this season.
The Trojans used improved shooting at the foul line to aid their cause in the two home wins. Troy shot 77.1 percent from the line as a team, a mark that would rank third overall in the Sun Belt.
Troy (4-13, 2-3) is shooting just 65 percent from the charity stripe this season.
For the second straight week a Troy player was honored as the Sun Belt's Player of the Week. Last week it was sophomore guard Will Weathers, this week senior guard Vernon Taylor took the honors.
Taylor averaged 21 ppg as the Trojans took down the Hilltoppers and the Mean Green. Troy's leading scorer this season, he is second in league in point production (15.7 ppg) and ranks 12th in rebounding (5.7 rpg).
The Cross, S.C. native is one of just two players to rank in the top five in scoring and top 12 in rebounding. FIU's Eric Frederick is the other.
MTSU (7-11, 2-3) is the loser of two straight, dropping a home game with league leader Florida Atlantic last Thursday and falling on the road to Arkansas State on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders feature two double-figure scorers – guard James Washington III (13.9 ppg) and sophomore forward Jason Jones (13.1 ppg). Jones also leads the squad in rebounding (4.8 rpg).
Washington is the team's top outside threat. He is shooting 42.3 percent, seventh-best in the Sun Belt, and has connected on 41 treys.
Troy is 6-7 all-time against the Blue Raiders, but just 2-4 in Murfreesboro, including a 70-67 win by the Trojans at the Murphy Center last season. The Men of Troy have won three straight against MTSU.
Following Thursday night's game the Trojans will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to face WKU in the finale of the season series.
