Changes made to improve gameday experience
With just more than two weeks remaining before the 2010 Troy University Trojans begin the “Drive for Five”, there is plenty for Trojans football fans to get excited about.
The Trojans, who have been working on the practice field since early August to prepare for a visit from the Bowling Green Falcons, will hold their third scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday.
The scrimmage, which will get started at 10:30 a.m., will focus on various aspects of special teams play, but there will also be time devoted to work on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
The first team offense will square off with the second defense, and the second offense against the first defense, for about 50 plays during the scrimmage. Numerous position battles are still being fought and this will be a chance for those players to make a final push.
Following the scrimmage, on Saturday evening, the Troy Athletics Department will host “Football Appreciation Night” in the Stadium Club at Veterans Memorial Stadium. A limited number of tickets for the event are still available.
Tickets are $100 and admit two for the evening. In addition, each ticket purchased will be entered into the annual draw down for a $10,000 prize. To purchase a ticket to the event, contact Judy Morgan at 334-670-3682 or Alicia Bookout at 334-670-3683.
On Sunday Troy fans will have a chance to meet the Trojans at the annual Fan Day. Members of the football, soccer, volleyball and cross country teams, as well as coaches and cheerleaders, will be on hand at Sartain Hall beginning at 2 p.m.
Members of the teams will be available for photos and autographs during the event. Admission to Fan Day is free and the first 1,000 in the door will receive a free hotdog.
With the start of the season just two weeks away, there are some changes for fans to make note of as they prepare to visit Veterans Memorial Stadium this year. Below is a list of specific changes to be aware of.
• Tailgate Terrace – The area outside the leftfield fence at Riddle-Pace Field, leading to the main entrance to Veterans Memorial Stadium, has been completely renovated. Patrons who have, in the past, been able to drive vehicles into that area will no longer be allowed to do so. Tailgate Terrace is now strictly limited to pedestrian traffic. Tailgate Terrace tent holders will be issued one parking pass to the Pace Hall Parking Lot adjacent to Luther Drive. While vehicles are not allowed, grills and generators will be allowed. Electricity and cable is not provided. Each tent customer will be provided with two tables, 10 chairs and two trash cans.
• Kid Zone – The Kid Zone will return to the outfield of Riddle-Pace Field and will be available prior to kickoff on game days.
• Recreational Vehicles – RV parking will once again be in the Sartain Hall parking lot and vehicles will only be admitted with appropriate parking passes. No RVs will be allowed into the Sartain Hall lot prior to 1 p.m. on Friday before game day. There will be no RV parking allowed on either University Avenue or Collegedale Drive. Also, the RV hookups that were available in the past have all been removed.
• Handicapped Parking – Troy fans attending games with valid handicapped parking decals will now park on the North Stadium Lot adjacent to the football practice fields. There will no longer be handicapped parking on the Armory property across George Wallace Drive.
• Text Service – Once inside Veterans Memorial Stadium, all fans will have access to a new Text service to inform athletics department staff members of any problems they may encounter during their time at the game. Fans can text the keyword “Troy” to 69050 on their mobile device. After the keyword, provide information on your problem and your location and someone will be dispatched to assist.
• Information Booth – In addition to the text service, there will be an Information Booth inside the stadium to assist patrons and answer any questions. The booth will be manned from the time the gates open until after the game ends and will serve as a lost and found hub as well as a place to go with any questions.
• Gameday Program – Information on all stadium and event related rules and issues will be included in the Gameday Program. Programs will be available for purchase outside Veterans Memorial Stadium in the hours leading up to kickoff and inside the stadium once gates open. Issues addressed in the Gameday Program include: items that can and can't be brought into the stadium, bag inspection, the alcohol policy, behavior policies, the location of restrooms, first aid stations, information on the reentry policy and emergency information.
All Troy University students, faculty and staff are working to follow “The Trojan Way” and fans at athletic events will be encouraged to follow this simple set of rules as well. The Trojan Way calls for everyone to be respectful of others, speak appropriately, dress properly, behave responsibly and adhere to all laws and policies.
