The Team Behind the Team
5/24/2010 3:00:00 PM | General
The purpose of the newly formed council is to strive to provide a meaningful experience, through educational and capital support, for all of Troy University's student-athletes in competition, the classroom and the community. The goal is also to recruit new members for the foundation as well. This group will serve as ambassadors for Troy Athletics while helping the department plan and complete projects.
This is the first ever council named for the Trojan Warrior program that began in 2007. The Trojan Warrior fund is designed to not only help with program expansion such as facilities, but it also makes the operations of a program more efficient.
Championship programs are something the Troy University fan base has been accustomed to for many years, especially this year. Trojan football and basketball sealed Sun Belt Championships in this school year as well as the men's tennis team who knocked off national power Denver for the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Tournament Championship en route to the NCAA tournament.
These championship programs don't succeed without championship support. That's where the team behind the team comes into play. The membership drive is approaching fast, running from June to November. The goal of the council is to get to 1,500 total members in that time frame.
The new council members are Jimmy Gardner (Greenville), Mike Lott (Troy), Marrell Hartley(Opelika), Doug Mims(Dothan) , Stacy Faison(Phenix City/Columbus), Keith Sims(Ft.Walton), Richard Dowling(Enterprise), Steve Timberlake(Pensacola), Josh Wilson(Elba), Phillip Grice(Birmingham), Gus King(Troy), Randy Eberhart (Dothan), Melanie Garner (Geneva), Collin McCrary (Troy), Ken Odom (Andalusia) and Brian McLeod (Elba).
