ATLANTA - The Troy Trojans volleyball got their spring exhibition season underway this past weekend in the Georgia State/Georgia Tech Spring Tournament. The Trojans went 2-1 on the weekend including a win over 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Clemson.
In spring competition, the winner of two sets is declared the match winner, unlike the three sets it takes to win a match in the fall.
In the Trojans first match of 2010, they fell in two sets to Georgia, (25-12, 25-13). However Troy rebounded and took the next two matches, both in three sets.
Troy defeated Georgia State (13-25, 25-21, 15-8) and Clemson (29-27, 15-25, 15-12).
"Despite the rough beginning, we played exceptionally well," said head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. "Beating Clemson was a huge win as they were in the NCAA Tournament last semester."
"We look forward to continuing to play well next weekend at Florida State," Kirkpatrick added.
The Trojans will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. next weekend for match-ups with Alabama, Florida State and a rematch with Georgia.
