Trojans Fall at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Troy Trojans traveled to UAB look to avenge a loss early this year to the Blazers, but they unable to solve Lauren Webster for six innings and fell 3-2.
Ashlyn Williams (18-19) got the start for the Trojans and threw well, giving up just three runs, two earned in six innings pitched. She struck out seven and walked three.
At the plate, four Trojans posted one hit.
The Trojans (24-26) would get on the board first with a single score in the second inning. Hayden Gann would reach on a throwing error by the Blazers shortstop to start the inning. Gann would then move to second on an error by the catcher on a pickoff attempt, and to third on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Cherry.
Gann would then slide in safe at the home after Sarah Harris put down a squeeze bunt.
UAB 32-17) would get on unearned run of their own in the bottom of the inning. A leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt moved a runner into scoring position with one out. A throwing error by Nikki Hollett on a ground ball would then allow the runner at second to score, tying the game at 1-1.
The Blazers would get one run in the third to take a 2-1 lead. After a leadoff single, a stolen base put a runner in scoring position. Another single would then plate the go ahead run and put the Trojans in a one run hole.
UAB would get another run off of a solo home run in the fifth, making the score 3-1.
Webster (15-5) would one hit the Trojans through six innings, but the Trojans would threaten in the seventh.
The Trojans would tack on one in the seventh. After three singles loaded the bases, Josie Cox picked up her first collegiate RBI with a groundout to third base, making the score 3-2. The Trojans were unable to scratch across any more as they left runners on second and third base to end the game.
The Trojans will enjoy some rest as they have a ten day break before their next contests, a doubleheader at South Alabama on Saturday, May 8 at 4:00 p.m.
