Trojans Fall to No.5 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Troy Trojans softball team fell to Alabama Tuesday night at the Alabama Softball Stadium 12-2. The Trojans trailed by just one at 3-2 after three and half, but the Crimson Tide scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control.
Alabama (36-9) would get on the board first with two runs in the second inning. The leadoff batter reached on a walk and stole second, but was retired at third on a fielder's choice. The new runner at first attempted to steal second and Belinda White's throw was well in time, but a head first slide wide of the bag made the runner safe.
Next up was Crimson Tide starting pitcher Amanda Locke who hit a two run shot over the center field fence. The homer was the tenth of the season for Locke.
The Trojans (21-23) would get one back in third inning with a quick two out rally. Kala Moore got on base with when Alabama shortstop Whitney Larson bobbled a ground ball that would've posed a tough play. After Moore stole second base, Rocky Paige lace a payoff pitch to the left center gap for an RBI double to get the Trojans within one at 2-1.
The Crimson Tide would match the run in the third. Jennifer Sewell led the inning off with an infield bunt single and stole second base. She was moved to third by another infield bunt single and scored on a passed ball.
Troy would once again put a single run on the board with two outs, this time in the fourth inning. Courtney Cherry hit her fifth home run of the season, a solo shot over the left center fence.
Alabama would get nine runs in the fourth inning, off of six hits, no errors and three walks. The Crimson Tide hit three home runs in the inning, including two by Alex Blewitt and a grand slam by Charlotte Morgan.
Moore would extend her season long hitting streak to nine with an infield single in the fifth inning.
Locke (4-2) would throw 4.0 innings to pick up the win. She gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two.
The Trojans will return home on Wednesday for more non-conference action. The Trojans will take on Florida A&M in a doubleheader at the Trojan Softball Complex. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
