Trojans Stand Eighth After Two Rounds

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The Troy University women's golf team fell one spot in the overall team standings in the second on Tuesday, shooting a 28-over par 316.
The Trojans find themselves seven shots behind North Texas (617) and nine shots behind Arkansas State (619), as they enter the final round Tuesday with a 48-over par 624.
The highest individual entering the final round is senior Kaley Branton. The senior shot a six-over par 78 in the second round, entering the final round of the tournament tied for 22nd with a 10-over par 154.
Sophomore Haley Lawrence is just two strokes behind her teammate, sitting in a tie for 26th - sixth spots better than where she entered the second round. She shot five-over for the day, putting her at 11-over par 155 after two rounds of play.
Junior Liz Balkcom made the biggest move of the day as she moved up 11 spots and shot five shots better than her opening round. After an opening round 82, the junior used a five-over par 77 to finish the second round at 15-over par 159.
For the day, the Trojans recorded eight total birdies, with a pair of those coming at number nine. Both Lawrence and Branton both hit massive drives off the tee, setting an easy approach shot with a five-wood. The two reached the green in two, and two-putted for the birdie.
The other birdies on the day for the Trojans came at number one (Lawrence), number two (Branton), number seven (Balkcom), number 10 (Balkcolm), number 13 (Lawrence) and number 15 (Balkcolm).
The best hole of the day came at the par-five ninth hole where the Trojans connected on two birdies and three pars to finish at two-under for the day. They also finished even par at three other holes on the course; the par-three second, par-five fourth and par-three 10th hole.
The worst hole on the day came for the Trojans at the par-four eighth hole where the Trojans connected on an eight-over par. They recorded a pair of double bogeys, a pair of bogeys and a par. The only other hole over three-over par was the par-four fifth hole. The Trojans finished four-over par with a double bogey, two bogeys and two pars.
The Trojans tee off with the second group out in the final round on Wednesday morning at the Schoolmaster Course at Robert Trent Jones.
