Sun Belt Championships Underway Monday

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The words outstanding, phenomenal and pristine have all been words to describe the layout and the overall course at the Robert Trent Jones Course here in Muscle Shoals by the competing teams at the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championships.
But the one word that comes to mind when thinking of the course layout for the women is surreal.
The fairways are wide, leaving plenty of room to get out of trouble. The rough is high, but not high enough to chip out and approach the green. The greens are cut low and fast, leaving room for players to make a mistake near the green.
And lastly, the surrounding beauty is a site to behold. The players get to tee off on the first hole toward the entrance of the course, looking out toward the entire course. And they get to walk to the 18th hole with a gallery perched 20 feet above the hole level. Not to mention the lake sitting off to the left.
The players this week are competing for a conference championship, but for some they will be battling the layout of the course with its different aspects to draw them in.
However, the course will not be the only thing drawing the players in, as the weather in this part of the country is going to be perfect for the game of golf. The highest the temperature is going to get throughout the week is 78, with lows around 55 and no chance of rain.
And that is exactly how the weather was for Sunday's practice round. The sun was out, no clouds with a slight breeze coming from the north to cool things off. The Trojans hit the course at 11:45 this morning as the second group out for practice and the temperature never got above 73 degrees on the course.
The team got a chance to see the course up close on Sunday and were able to work on things they will be able to translate into the three rounds of action beginning Monday.
The Trojans hit the course again on Monday morning, but this time the scoring will count as the opening round gets underway at The Schoolmaster. The Trojans tee off at 8:55 am in search of a conference championship, with live stats being provided by the Sun Belt Conference.
