Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy will be the host site for Empty Bowls in Troy this year on May 5th. Empty Bowls is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness of and funding to combat hunger in the community. Handmade bowls are donated for the meal. Tickets are sold, and ticket holders select a bowl and partake of a simple soup (donated by restaurants). They get to take the bowl home as a reminder that people go hungry even in our area. There are no overhead costs for the event. All the money raised by the ticket sales will go to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Troy. Some of the bowls for the event were made by Troy athletes because it is a cause they believe in strongly.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Troy Chamber of Commerce, The Salvation Army or by contacting Marian Parker at Troy University at 334-808-6253.
