Trojans Head North To Longwood

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's basketball team heads to Farmville, Virginia for their final non-conference game of the season, battling Longwood on Wednesday night. The game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM beginning at 5:45 pm with the pregame show.
GAME NOTES
THE BASICS . . . Troy (11-11, 4-9 Sun Belt) will be looking to end a three-game losing streak, the second time it has happened this season ... The Trojans enter the game having lost six of their last seven games, with three of those losses by a combined 11 points ... The Trojans have lost four games this season by three or fewer points and have had the ball in their hands on the final possession ... Junior Donette McNair recorded her seventh double-double of the season against South Alabama last Saturday ... Senior Brittnie Davis had her streak of 20 or more points scored snapped at three, as she was held to just five points by South Alabama ... The game can also be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM with Travis Jarome (play-by-play) providing the action ... This marks the last of three consecutive road games for the Trojans this month.
THE COACHES . . . Michael Murphy is in his eighth season at the helm of the Trojans where he has recorded a 102-121 record, becoming just the second coach at the university to win 100 or more games ... Meanwhile, Kristin Caruso is in her third year at Longwood ... She is most well-known for being named the Big East Freshman of the Year during her playing days at the University of Connecticut.
THE SERIES . . . The all-time series with Troy and Longwood is a short one with Troy winning the first and only contest 74-57 earlier this season ... McNair led Troy with 21 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing her second consecutive double-double in a 74-57 victory over the Lancers in a meeting at Trojan Arena earleir this season. Meanwhile, Shearing added 19 and freshman Sophie Kleeman scored a career-high 13 points in the victory ... The Trojans shot 47.9 (23-of-48) percent from the floor and 38.1 (8-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 62.5 (20-of-32) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 23 turnovers in the process.
NON-CONFERENCE . . . The Trojans are 6-2 in non-conference games this season, with their only two losses coming to Auburn and Georgia State.
A WIN WOULD . . . End a a three-game losing streak by the Trojans ... Be their seventh non-conference win of the season ... Get them back over the .500 mark for the season ... Give the Trojans a season sweep of Longwood.
A LOSS WOULD . . . Be the Trojans fourth in a row, their longest streak of the season ... Be the seventh in eight games this season ... Be their third consecutive loss in the month of February ... Be the fifth consecutive road loss of the season.
60 POINT OR LESS . . . For the first time this season, the Trojans lost a game in which they gave up 60 or fewer points in contest ... They were a perfect 9-0 before Saturday's loss to South Alabama, including 3-0 in conference play.
WHEN MCNAIR RECORDS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE . . . The Trojans are 6-2 this season when junior Donette McNair records a double-double ... The junior has recorded double-doubles against Jacksonville State, Morgan State, Belhaven, New Orleans, North Texas, ULM and South Alabama ... The only two losses for the Trojans this season on a double-double by McNair came against conference foes South Alabama and WKU, both Saturday games.
HARD TIMES . . . Trojans have dropped nine conference games, five of which are by a combined 16 points ... Four of those games have been by three points or less, with the Trojans having the ball in their hands for the final possession.
700 CLUB . . . Senior forward Alyce Shearing is just 38 points away from joining the 700-point club ... If she hits her average each game, Shearing should hit the mark by the Florida Atlantic game - Senior Day.
FORTUNE 500 . . . Senior Brittnie Davis went over the 500-point mark in the Trojans in over ULM last week ... She did so although she scored just 92 points in her first two seasons as a Trojan ... She doubled her performance as a freshman to a sophomore (25 to 67), then more than doubled her performance as a sophomore to junior (67 to 174), followed by 270 at this point in the season as a senior.
500-500 CLUB . . . Junior Donette McNair is just 47 rebounds away from joining the 500-500 club, although by the time she hits 500 rebounds she will have 600 points (621 currently) ... At her current average, McNair should hit the mark on the road against UALR.
