The Trojans fell to the Lady Jags for the second time this season

MOBILE, Ala.- For the second time this season, the Troy University volleyball team fell to the University of South Alabama; this time on the road, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) in Sun Belt Conference action Tuesday night.

Troy was led on the night by junior Natasha Kolunija with eight kills and a .316 attack percentage, meanwhile sophomore Devin Von Pingel added seven kills to the tally for the Trojans.

In the first set, Troy took an early 4-1 lead with a kill from Kolunija and service ace from junior Brittany McClelland. South Alabama came back to tie the Trojans at 7-all, and from there the set was tied 14 times before the Lady Jags finally were able to pull away from Troy after the match was tied at 23-all.

In the second set the Lady Jags jumped out with the lead to an early lead, before a kill from Von Pingel got the Trojans to within three of South Alabama at 8-5. However, the Lady Jags pushed the lead ahead, before Troy once again sparked a rally. Three kills from Von Pingel once again brought the Trojans to within three at 16-13, but the rally was not enough as South Alabama took the victory going into intermission.

In the third set, South Alabama took an early 4-1 lead in the deciding set. Troy was not able to keep up with the Lady Jags until they found themsevles down 8-3. A trio of kills from Kolunija brought the Trojans as close as they would come in the final third set at 11-7. The Lady Jags were able to stop the Troy rally and gain a major lead. A group of Lady Jag errors and a service ace from senior Megan Henderson started another Troy rally and got the Trojans to within five at 21-16. But from there, the Lady Jags were able to pull away for the victory.

The Trojans return to action on Friday as they hit the road for the second of five consecutive road matches, taking on WKU at 7 pm on Friday.
