Troy Women Slip To Fifth at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Troy University women's golf team struggled with the elements in Tuesday's final round at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, shooting a 315 to slip to fifth place in the 12-team tournament.

The host Governors of Austin Peay made the biggest second day charge, improving their score by 13 shots over the opening round on Monday to move past Troy into fourth place. Murray State, which held the day one lead after shooting 298 on Monday, held on for the tournament title by posting a score of 306 in the second round.

The Racers were led by Caroline Lagerborg, who followed an even par opening round score with a one-over round on Tuesday to take top individual honors by three shots over a trio of other players.

Murray State (6-4) was followed by Western Kentucky (611) in second, Jacksonville State (617) in third and Austin Peay (623) in fourth. The Trojans were fifth with a score of 628.

Troy senior Liz Balkcom (Juliette, Ga.) followed her two-over par score in the opening round with a six-over 78 on Tuesday to slip into a three-way tie for seventh in the tournament, her best finish of the season.

Sophomore Sofia Bjorkman (Vanersborg, Sweden) made a one-shot improvement in her score on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 18th place with a final score of 157 (79-78), finishing at 12 over par.

Junior Haley Lawrence (Prattville, Ala.) finished tied for 23rd overall at 13-over par (78-80+158) while sophomore Sara Fennvik (Gothenburg, Sweden) finished tied for 35th at 16-over par (82-79=161) and senior Annelies Anderson (Ohaupo, New Zealand) finished tied for 44th at 18-over par (82-81=163).

The Troy women's team will close the fall portion of their schedule on November 1-2 at the Pat Bradley Invitational, which is hosted by FIU and will be played in Ft. Myers, Fla., at the Pelican Preserve Golf Club.
