Helping Haiti

Troy offensive lineman Micah Grimes watched as people in Haiti's lives were destroyed by an earthquake just two weeks ago. He wanted to go down and offer his help, but that is an unrealistic goal. He knew that he had to do something though to help those in need so he did, and he did it in a big way.
“Many people want to do something, but they don't know what, and they don't know how,” Grimes said. “As a college student, we may not have lots of money to give, but as a team, using the medium of music, our money can add up quickly.”
With that, the “Help for Haiti” Relief Concert was born. The response to the event was a little more than Grimes bargained for as well. ESPN.com, WSFA News 12, The Dothan Eagle, The Montgomery Advertiser and many other media outlets wanted to know about the concert, and they also wanted to help spread the word.
“There has been a great response to the event,” Grimes said. “It's just a great thing to see that people want to help. It's great to see this thing grow. The response has been excellent, and we really didn't expect it to take off like this. We're extremely excited about it.”
The idea for the concert came from a close friend of Grimes', Josh Johnson. The two knew they had something special coming along, and the public has responded to prove them right. Johnson's band, The J. Harvey Band is one of 12 acts that will take stage on Friday at Tailgate Terrace on the Troy Campus.
Admission to the concert is a donation of five dollars at the gate or more if possible. Grimes is hoping for a large turnout at the event so that the Troy community can help change a few lives in Haiti.
“This is a special thing,” Grimes said. “This is making me a different person, and I'm very thankful that we could help out. I'm just ready for Friday now so we can watch this thing take off.”
The event kicks off at three p.m. and lasts until nine.
