1/21/2010 7:09:00 PM | General
Troy - The Troy University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee organization met for the first time for this semester, this past week. The organization is made up of Troy athlete's from all sports. The member's are determined by Troy coaches. Members that are usually chosen are those who show great respect towards their individual teams. This makes being a part of the SAAC an honor.
The SAAC here at Troy University is headed up by football's very own Cornelius Williams. The organization is used as a vehicle for community service and is a chance for Trojan athletes to reach out to the surrounding community. It is a chance for Trojans to give back to the community which supports them on many different fields of organized sport.
The SAAC are found supporting organizations such as Read Across America and Relay for Life. Here in the near future they plan to support the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. This foundation matches pediatric brain tumor patients with college athletic teams to offer support in a way that only teams can.
Many of the women athletes are planning to take a trip to Headland Elementary School to talk with third graders who are studying women athletics. The SAAC is currently searching for a way to reach out to the people of Haiti who were recently victims to a devastating earthquake.
The next meeting for SAAC will be held February 22 at 7:00pm in the third floor of the Trojan Stadium Tower.
