STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Troy Trojans put up a fight against SEC foe Mississippi State, falling to the Bulldogs 1-0 in overtime Friday night.
The Bulldogs (5-0) young team came out on top as a header in the 98th minute found the back of the net, and the Trojans fell to their second loss of the season.
The overtime challenge is the second on the year for the Trojans, as both ended in one goal.
Head coach Chris Bentley said his team was organized and disciplined Friday against the Bulldogs.
"MSU came at us over and over again as expected but our resilience and organization kept them from penetrating our back line and forced a lot of shots from long range," Bentley said.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Branham had 12 saves of the night in her 100 minutes of action and the Trojan defense helped stop 39 shots from the Bulldogs.
The Trojans recorded eight shots on the night as sophomore Mary Morris topped the chart with two shots. The rest of the shots came from veterans Jill Pinder. Ceil Martinec, Mandy Miley, Nicole Targa, Laura Hopson and Bridget Duke.
Bentley was not upset with his teams performance but is ready to bounce back against Mississippi Valley State.
"It was disappointing not to a get a result, but we have a good gauge on where we are at this point, and look forward to bouncing back Sunday," Bentley said.
Troy (4-2) finish their Mississippi tour on Sunday taking on the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena at 1 pm.
