TROY, Ala. - With a brand new season just a few days away, the 2009 Trojan volleyball team got a chance to gain some valuable game experience this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Troy University volleyball program hosted their annual alumni match. Twelve former Trojans turned out to see if they could still compete, and to get a look at the 2009 edition of the Trojans.
Three seniors from last year's squad, Jean McCarthy, Molly Eubank and Jennifer White returned to see some old teammates. The 12 alumni in attendance were the most that have ever played in the match.
Not only did the match allow for old friends to catch up with each other, it gave this year's team a chance to play against someone other than themselves. The match allowed the Trojan coaching staff a chance to see how their players reacted to game situations.
The match also marked the first time that the public had a chance to see the Trojans in action. In all, the Trojans and former Trojans played eight games.
The Trojans will open their regular season on Friday against Stetson in the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern. The Trojans home opener will come against Samford on September 8 at 7 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
