Reserves Gain Experience in Scrimmage

TROY - A scrimmage under the lights on Thursday evening at Movie Gallery Veterans' Stadium brought a lot of work for some younger Trojans.
While many projected starters were held out and some others played sparingly, it was the young players that got a chance to shine in front of the coaching staff in a productive practice.
"We got a lot done," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "There were a few good things and some things not so good. We got some competitive tackles in and didn't get anyone hurt seriously. It went pretty good. We got some pretty good kicking things done too. Overall we got some work done."
One offensive star for the Trojans was true freshman running back Greg Pratt.
"Pratt looked good," Blakeney said. "He did some good things running the ball."
The freshman from Naples, Fla. led the scrimmage with 41 yards on nine carries with a touchdown.
Travis Boyd scored the only other offensive touchdown when
he hauled in a 19-yard scoring pass from Dan Parker. Parker finished the scrimmage 8-of-15 for 92 yards and the score.
Then on defense a few veteran reserves made some plays.
"[Justin] Bray who is working at corner now made some plays, he jumped some hitches and made some things happen," Blakeney said.
"Xavier Lamb was everywhere and Carvel Jones made some plays too. They both played a lot and did some good things."
Lamb had a pair of tackles, while Jones added 1.5 stops. Defensive back Bryan Willis intercepted a Corey Robinson attempt and returned it for a touchdown to cap the game's scoring.
Thursday night's scrimmage concludes the camp portion of Troy's fall practice. Next the Trojans begin preparation for their September 3 showdown with Bowling Green State.
