TROY - Mobile, Ala. defensive lineman Sidell Corley has transferred to Troy as announced by head football coach Larry Blakeney on Friday.
The 6-4, 274 pound redshirt sophomore left the LSU football program and after weighing his options has decided Troy is the best place for him to continue his collegiate career.
"Sidell has decided to come here to Troy," Blakeney said. "I met with him and his father, he's been released, everything is on the up-and-up. He's a likable young man who has been through a lot and hopefully this will be a good experience for him."
Corley appeared in two games during the 2008 season at LSU after redshirting as a true freshman in 2007. In those two contests he recorded two tackles in a reserve role.
He was on the field with the Trojans on Friday, but he will not be jumping head first into action.
"We are going to try and work him in slowly according to what he can do and try to get him ready to help this team if he's eligible, if he's not eligible we will nurture him through the year," Blakeney said.
The Troy staff is working with Corley's family to apply for a NCAA waiver to allow him to become eligible immediately.
FRIDAY BRINGS SCRIMMAGE PREP: The Trojans' Friday practice consisted of a light load and polished a lot of mechanics for Saturday's upcoming scrimmage. The scrimmage will be the second of this season's camp, and Blakeney is looking forward to seeing the team's work pay off tomorrow.
"We're trying to get them ready for some good work tomorrow," Blakeney said. "I think we had a good practice today. We had some good situations in two-minute drills. Everything is sort of push and pull right now for us."
Dantavious Parker continued to shine for the offense on Friday.
"Parker has had as good of a camp as any quarterback or other offensive player has this fall," Blakeney said. "I'm really proud of his progress."
Overall, Blakeney is looking forward to seeing the team's improvements from last week's scrimmage.
"We'll probably hold some guys, but we're just trying to get better and learn more about our team," Blakeney said. "We'll finish another hurdle along the way. Anytime you put the guys out here, 11 on 11, a head coach always gets nervous. We have to do a certain amount of it or we won't be good when the time comes. We'll probably try to get in between 60 to 100 plays in the scrimmage."
Practice was also highlighted with a visit from a member of the Troy family.
"The Chancellor came to practice today," Blakeney said. "We're always proud to see him. He stays busy, but he always makes time to come by and watch us."
