TROY – Despite temperatures reaching upwards of 90 degrees and even hotter on the field, the Troy Trojans practiced for over two hours on Thursday afternoon.
Despite the elements, the Trojans were able to press on in their preparations for a September 3 date with Bowling Green with a freshman catching the eye of a coach.
“Tough day, full gear, it was hot,” head coach Larry Blakeney said. “We worked pretty hard through it. Shawn Southward showed that he has a chance to prove his worth to this team this year. Don't know what will happen. He's taking care of the ball and doing a lot of things right.”
Southward (5-8, 184) is a true freshman running back from Florence, Ala.
Troy will go through a lighter practice on Friday afternoon in preparation for their second fall scrimmage on Saturday morning.
