Sweet Summer Time
7/13/2009 12:15:00 PM | Football

The spring and summer months of the year are my busiest times. You would think that fall is my busiest time because of football, but that is not the case. You see, during football season, I am not an anchor on TrojanVision, I am not an intern at WSFA 12, and I don't get into much of my freelance work.
During the fall, I am focused on football, and that's about it.
When you hadn't seen my blog for most of this year, it's because I spend my spare time away from football working on what I'll be doing after my playing days end.
As summer winds down, so do the opportunities I've been blessed with outside of football, until the regular season ends for the most part.
When I talk about freelance work, you may have noticed a few Troy football promotional videos I directed and produced. If you haven't, take a look:
Levi's True Desire
What It Takes
A Ping-Pong Legend Rises
Levi, Jerrel, and Jorrick were excellent to work with. I was worried they would be shy about being in front of a camera like that, but they were all-out with it.
If I were to give an award for best acting performance, it would definitely go to Levi. He had us all rolling laughing at the end of “Levi's True Desire”. We had to reshoot it three times because we were laughing so hard.
I haven't heard anything from Coach Brown or Coach Parker on our offhand, nonchalant inclusions of them in two of the three videos, but we figured they would get a kick out of it. We are lucky to have coaches with a sense of humor.
Dothan Eagle beat writer Drew Champlin also got a nudge as Levi's catalyst to a Heisman Trophy.
Levi and I sat in the studio until about 1 a.m. the night we shot the videos, brainstorming ideas, and I edited the video. He helped narrate the battle between Jorrick and Jerrel. He could take over for me in the creativity department.
We had weights at 6:30 a.m., but still made it. We can survive doing something that late, and turning around to an early morning in the summer. That's why I say my other opportunities slow dramatically in the fall. I'd be a ghost of myself if I only got three or four hours of sleep during the fall season.
This summer has been a progressively stronger one for the whole team. Workouts are going well, and Coach Shaughnessy says that we are ahead of schedule with our numbers. We aren't getting complacent. Levi organizes workouts in the evenings Monday through Wednesday, and everyone, from the receivers to the offensive line, has been consistent.
The defense has been out there, too. The “big skill” (linemen) get done before the “little skill” (DuJuan Harris, I mean, receivers and backs), but the grapevine tells me that it's been quite competitive. That should translate well into the season.
I plan to shoot a few more promo videos before the summer ends. Right now, I have a few ideas involving the offensive linemen, and a calendar shoot. That should be hilarious…to say the least.
I have a major project to work on next week, and that will come out when I complete it. It will be something for all to see at Troy football games this season.
I also plan to blog during camp like I did this past year. Word on the street says that we won't be having two-a-days this year. I don't know how accurate that is, but it would be a welcome subtraction with the fall camp schedule….I mean…no, please don't do that! (You never know. Reverse psychology.)
Until then…
Micah Grimes
