Troy University golf coach Matt Terry announced the signing of two players who will join the women's golf program in the fall. He also announced the addition of a transfer to the men's team.
Sara Fennvik and Sofia Björkman, both from Sweden, will enroll as freshman and will be eligible to compete in the fall 2009 semester.
“We are extremely excited to have signed both of these ladies,” Terry said. “They both have extensive junior golf playing experience. Sofia just won a tournament this past weekend. On top of their playing ability, they are both very good students.”
Björkman comes from Halmstad, Sweden, where she competed on the Riks and JMI tours. She was ranked in the top 50 in the country and has had several top-10 finishes on the junior tours. She capped off her junior career with a second place finish at the Barseback Club Junior Championship.
Fennvik is from Rävstigen, Sweden, where she succeeded academically, graduating in the top five of her class. Fennvik competed in the Bana Tour the last season and had four top-five finishes, including a second place overall finish at the Skandia Tour Regional.
“With the addition of these two young ladies to our team that just had its best Sun Belt finish, we are looking forward to even better things next season,” Terry said.
Terry also announced that Hunter Harper, a native of Bessemer, Ala., was transferring to Troy from Columbus State. Harper played in just one event at Columbus State last year, shooting scores of 73 and 75 in the Aflac/Cougar Invitational. He played in six events as a freshman in 2007-08 and had a 78.8 stroke average.
“We recruited Hunter out of high school and we are excited to have him joining our program,” Terry said.
