TROY, Ala. - The Troy University Department of Athletics recently announced the hiring of Matthew Carlo and the promotion of Alicia Bookout inside the department.
Carlo joins the department as the Director of Event Management and Promotions after serving a year as a graduate assistant in the same department. A 2003 graduate of Winfield High School, Carlo is currently pursuing his MBA from Troy after receiving his Bachelor's in Sport and Fitness Management in 2007 (with a minor in Business).
He attended Jackson State Community College for two years before attending Troy. While at Jackson State CC, Carlo played baseball and was a Preseason All-American selection prior to his sophomore season.
Meanwhile, Bookout has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Development, after serving the University since June 2004 in two different capacities.
Bookout joined the University in June 2004 as the Director of Annual Giving and Special Projects. She served in that capacity until April 2006, when she moved to Athletics to serve as the Director of Development/Annual Giving.
During her time at Troy, she has been responsible for planning and coordinating the year-round annual Phonathon. She also coordinated all aspects of the Faculty/Staff Campaign and the Chancellor's Invitational Golf Tourmament. Before joining the Department of Athletics, she also organized special events sponsored by the Advancement area; such as One Great University Celebration, New Student Convocation and Reception, New Building Opening Ceremony and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum Children's Wing Opening Ceremony.
Upon her move to the Department of Athletics in May 2006, Bookout coordinated and directed the annual fund (Trojan Warrior Club). She also directed all aspects of the Trojans Wheels Car Dealer Club, including implementation of member activities. Bookout also managed the Stadium Club, including all game day activities for Food Services, Staffing, Clean-Up and Security.
Bookout also assisted with corporate ticket sales, fund-raising initiatives for coaching staff, coordinated special events within the department and acted as a liaison between the Department of Alumni Affairs and the Department of Athletics.
She is a graduate of Queen's College of Charlotte with a Bachelor's of Arts (Music), before earning her Master of Arts (Arts Administration) from Florida State University.
Both Bookout and Carlo will assume their positions immediately within the Department of Athletics.
