School's Out for the Summer

School's been out for a week now and now we're enjoying our time at home until going back for more conditioning and training. Being home is bittersweet, I love being with family, friends, and grilled as opposed to fried foods, but it's also weird being without the team and practicing or training in some manner every day of the week

Anyway, the ending of the long ?09 spring season was great. Not only was it great because it was the ending itself, but it couldn't have gone any better as far as our growth as a team. We had a tournament at Georgia State in April and played 3 SEC teams, Mercer, and UAB. Although we didn't win a match, every one went to a final deciding game. Surprisingly enough, we weren't that upset with our record that weekend. We looked around and realized that, with everyone back to full recovery in the fall and our new freshmen coming in, we were going to be a fun team to watch. Before that weekend, we scrimmaged Auburn, Jacksonville State, and Samford, all fall opponents. We were very evenly matched with all three of those teams, so it will be interesting to see what happens during the season, when it really counts.

Every single person on the team gave 110% all spring long. And even though at one point we were dropping like flies due to injury and sickness, we all made it through and made it home. Some of the girls will be back in early summer to teach the 5 freshmen coming in what it's like to be a Trojan volleyball player. The rest of us won't be back until camp in mid-July after a summer full of...working out of course. I don't have any doubt, after seeing the development in the spring season as individuals, that the team in the fall of 2009 will be a force to reckon with.
