BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? Troy went into play Wednesday night at UAB riding a six-game win streak and fresh off a convincing win over the Blazers on Tuesday, but it was UAB that played with some swagger, ripping Troy's pitching for 16 hits in a 15-8 victory over the Trojans.
With the loss, the Trojans fall to 24-14 on the year. UAB improved to 23-18 with the win.
Troy will return to action on Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field when the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette visit to start a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
On Wednesday the Trojans got off to a great start when Chad Watson led off the game with a homer. Troy appeared to be on its way to another win, building a 5-2 lead, but that was where the wheels came off.
UAB scored five runs in the fourth and four each in the sixth and seventh innings. The scoring explosion came as the result of eight walks allowed plus three errors, two hit batters, two balks, to wild pitches and a passed ball.
In all, eight pitchers took the mound for the Trojans, with only starter Tim Wheeler enjoying any sustained success. He allowed two runs on five hits through three innings and turned the game over to the bull pen with a lead.
It took three pitchers to get out of the fourth inning as Andrew Dickinson and Drew Hull (2-3) both struggled with their control.
UAB reliever Tristan Farrell (3-4) was the beneficiary of the Blazers scoring, earning the win despite working just 1 1/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits.
The Trojans managed 12 hits against six UAB hurlers, four of which left the yard, but could never manage to string together enough hits to have a big inning.
In addition to Watson, Troy got homers from Trevor Tyre, Miles Hoyle and Charley Williams.
Brint Hardy led UAB with four hits while scoring four runs and driving in four. He had the only homer in the game for the Blazers.
