Trojans Nominated for SBC Awards

TROY - The end of the academic year is almost upon us, as is the athletic year with many of the sports wrapping up play in the next month. All that means is that it is time for the annual Sun Belt Conference awards, and several Trojans will be among those nominated this year.
Senior offensive lineman Will Chambliss has been nominated for the Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award on the men's side. Chambliss is a four-year Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representive for football. He is also a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Chaplain Assistant in the Troy area, as well as being a Sunday School teacher at Troy First Baptist Church. A member of D.A.R.E., Chambliss was a Wuerffel Award finalist and a semifinalist for the Draddy Award. He will receive his B.S. Degree in May 2008.
Senior point guard Larelle Roper has been nominated for the Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award on the women's side. Roper is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member who finished her career in the Top 25 all-time in the Sun Belt Conference in career assists. She is a volunteer tutor at the Troy Public Library, an Upward Bound volunteer and an Elementary Education major.
Meanwhile, the Trojans also have two student-athletes nominated for the Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete of the Year.
On the men's side, rodeo member Ben Mayworth is the nominee for the Trojans. A Geomatics major with a minor in Business, Mayworth is a four-year Troy University rodeo letterwinner. In 2007, he finished first in the Ozark Region for calf roping and claimed the national championship in the same event.
On the women's side, senior tennis player Rawia Elsisi is the nominee. A four-year Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member, Elsisi was a nominee for the Walter Byars NCAA Scholarship Award. She won the 2008 Sorrell Award (highest GPA among females), and is a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Society. Elsis was named to the ITA All-Academic Team and has been a scholar-athlete for three years.
Other student-athletes who have been nominated for awards include: Mike Conley (Sun Belt Conference Postgraduate Scholarship), Stephanie Yawn (Sun Belt Conference Postgraduate Scholarship), Kelly Harrington (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Danielle Skipper (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Nicole Targa (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Kathryn Ely (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Elsisi (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Agata Cichoszewska (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Tiphanie Baker (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Jennifer White (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Trevor Tyre (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Tom Jervis (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Drew Horner (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Jay Harris (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award), Bastain Maucher (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award) and Ryan Schmeling (Sun Belt Conference Sporting Behavior Award).
