Trojans Open Sun Belt Play at FIU

MIAMI ? With a pair of mid-week victories over in-state foes in their rear-view mirror, the Troy Trojans will open their 2009 Sun Belt schedule with a three-game set at Florida International on Friday.
The Trojans picked up two wins at Riddle-Pace Field earlier this week as they beat Samford on Wednesday night 6-5, just one night after beating No. 23 Alabama 6-2. The game on Tuesday night against the Crimson Tide marked the first time since 1998 the SEC opponent has visited Troy for a game.
The 1-2 punch of Michael Precise (.571, 4 RBI) and Ryan Ditthardt (.556, 1 HR, 4 RBI) powered the Trojans to both victories offensively and Troy's bullpen continued to be a source of strength. The Trojan relief corp. pitched 10-of-18 innings in the two games picking up 12 strikeouts. Jeff Green earned the victory over the Tide, while Fred Lewis picked up the win over Samford.
Freshman Tyler Ray will get the nod on Friday as Troy's starter. He is 1-1 in his first two career collegiate starts. He will be opposed by FIU's Scott Rembisz (1-0, 1.20 ERA). FIU is led offensively by Pablo Bermudez (.545, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Tyler Townsend (.524, 1 HR, 6 RBI).
This will be the first ever trip for Troy to FIU's University Park. The Trojans lead the all-time series with the Golden Panthers 7-3, but FIU will be looking to reverse their fortunes after a midweek win over Stetson. Troy opened the conference season last year at home against FIU, winning 2-of-3 games and the series.
Saturday's game is set for 6 pm EST and the series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST. Both Friday's game and Saturday's game will be available on WTBF 94.7 with Taylor Bryan bringing you all the action beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
