Trojans Stand 11th After Opening Day at UALR Classic

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. ? The Troy University women's golf team battled back from an opening round score of 323 to post a 317 in the second round of the UALR Women's Golf Classic on Monday at the Diamante Country Club.
The event will conclude on Tuesday with a final round of play.
Sun Belt Conference foe Florida International leads the event after the first day of play after posting scores of 301 and 314 for a 39-over par score of 615. Central Arkansas is five shots back at 620 while the host Trojans from UALR stand third, eight shots back at 623.
Sophomore Liz Balkcom (Juliette, Ga.) leads the Trojans into the final round after posting matching round of 77 on Monday. She is alone in 15th place individually in the 21 team event that features 105 players.
The tournament features seven Sun Belt Conference teams. Troy stands fourth among that group, just three shots behind Middle Tennessee.
In addition to Balkcom, freshman Haley Lawrence (Prattville, Ala.) stands in a tie for 42nd at 161, junior Desirae Zine (Vaccaville, Calif.) is tied for 48th at 162, junior Kaley Branton (Cartersville, Ga.) is tied for 52nd at 163 and freshman Nikki Crowley (Phenix City, Ala.) is tied for 86th with a score of 171.
Final round play in the tournament will start on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
