Saving the Best for Last

I have recently found myself thinking about the fact that this is my last semester as a Troy Trojan. A thought like this might make some sad, but I, myself, am excited because I know we have saved the best for last!
As I stated last semester, this is the best team I have been a part of in my four years at Troy. We improved a great deal last semester and things have only gotten better since then.
We have all been working exceptionally hard thus far in the semester and I expect this to remain for the entirety of the season. With the help of our new assistant coach, Simmi Masson, we have been able to pinpoint aspects of the game we each need to focus on individually.
This weekend the girls will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to start the season at the JU Women's Invitational. The five making the trip will be Kaley Branton, Liz Balkcom, Haley Lawrence, Nikki Crowley and Dez Zine.
I have been very impressed with Kaley Branton. Throughout qualifying she played very consistent and posted pretty good scores. If Kaley gets the putter going, she is sure to post good numbers and finish well.
Liz Balkcom has gained a new-found confidence, as she is striking the ball even better than she was at the end of last semester. She has been working on tweaking the swing just a bit. If both the confidence and swing show up, then she should put on a show at this first event!
Haley Lawrence has made a successful transition from high school to college as evidenced by her first semester stroke average of 79.9. I expect her to play even better this semester. The last time I played with Haley her game was right on target, so I am sure we will see great things from her next week.
Nikki Crowley is hitting the ball well and her short game has improved drastically. The combination of these two factors will likely lead her to some promising scores.
Dez Zine returns to the course after a year off due to illness and injury. She has been focusing on her short game a good bit and it is sure to pay off. What Dez lacks in her long game, she usually makes up for in her short game.
As for myself, I will be in Troy practicing and preparing to win my spot back for the next tournament.
We are all excited about the start of the season next Monday and Tuesday. I am certain that the last semester of my college career here at Troy will be the best!
GO TROJANS!
