Members of the 2009 Troy University football team continued to collect post-season awards today.
Senior quarterback Levi Brown was named Sun Belt Offensive MVP by The Sporting News while Trojans head coach Larry Blakeney was named Coach of the Year.
Trojans senior linebacker Bear Woods also joined the list of honorees when he was named to Phil Steele's 2009 Postseason All-American Fourth Team. Woods was the only player from a Sun Belt Conference program named to one of the four teams.
The Trojans, who became the first team in league history to complete a perfect 8-0 conference record, will return to the practice field on Thursday to continue preparation for their January 6 showdown with Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan in the GMAC Bowl.
The Sporting News this week ranked the GMAC Bowl as the 7th best matchup on the entire bowl schedule.
The matchup with CMU will be the only bowl game outside of the BCS to pit two conference champions. Troy has won four straight Sun Belt titles, including two consecutive outright league crowns, while CMU has won three of the last four Mid-American Conference crowns.
The Trojans are making their fourth bowl appearance in six seasons and their first in the GMAC Bowl after one appearance in the Silicon Valley Football Classic and two appearances in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Tickets for the GMAC Bowl are available through the Troy University Athletics Tickets Office, located in the Davis Field House, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., by calling 877-878-9467. Tickets are also available online at www.TroyTrojans.com.
The priority seating deadline for tickets to the GMAC Bowl is Friday, December 18. Tickets purchased after that date will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets for the GMAC Bowl purchased through Troy are $40, which is a $5 discount over tickets available elsewhere. Student tickets are also available for just $15 through the Athletics Ticket Office and at the Adams Student Center on campus. All students must present a valid student ID card to purchase their tickets.
Troy fans are also encouraged to purchase an extra ticket and donate it back to the athletic department for us by the “Sound of the South”, members of the military, local boys and girls clubs and other deserving organizations.
