10/8/2009 7:00:00 PM | General
TROY, Ala. - The Troy University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held its second meeting of the year on Wednesday.
A couple of guest speakers were on hand, including Buffie Edwards from the Troy Alumni Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was in attendance to talk about an upcoming golf tournament to benefit the House of Ruth.
The House of Ruth is an organization located in Dothan, Ala. that serves victims of domestic violence and sexual assault from throughout southeast Alabama.
The next speaker was Dr. Jon "Doc" Anderson. Doc was on hand to remind the student-athletes about the upcoming Canned Food Drive. Each year the student-athletes at Troy donated canned food to the Alabama Human Resources office, who then distributes the food to those in the state that truly need it.
Doc challenged the Trojans to get at least three cans per every student athlete.
Next, the group voted on legislation that is proposed for this year's NCAA Conference. Director of Compliance Kit Alewine and Compliance Coordinator Justin Kume presented many pieces of legislation to the committee for their vote.
Finally, the committee discussed the upcoming Dig For a Cure volleyball match that is set for October 23. Members of the volleyball team will be selling Dif For a Cure t-shirts at the Trojan Center in the days leading up to the match.
The next SAAC meeting has been set for November 3 at 7 p.m. For more information about SAAC, click the above link.
