Trojans Finish Seventh at USF Tournament

After posting the first sub-300 round in school history in the second round of the USF-Waterlefe Invitational on Monday, the Troy University women's golf team posted a final round score of 304 on Tuesday to finish seventh in the 17-team field in Bradenton, Fla.
Freshman Sofia Bjorkman posted a one-over par score of 73 in the final round to move into a tie for 12th place overall to lead the Troy squad. She finished at eight-over par (76-75-73=224) for the tournament.
Nova Southeastern University, led by tournament medalist Taylor Collins, won the tournament with a team score of 13-over par 877. Collins was the only player in the tournament to finish under par (70-69-71=210), finishing at six under par, seven strokes ahead of her nearest competition.
Campbell (883), host South Florida (893), Stetson (902), Dayton State (919) and Arkansas State (922) finished ahead of the Trojans (926).
Besides Bjorkman, senior Kaley Branton and sophomore Haley Lawrence finished in a tie for 47th place with matching scores of 237. Junior Liz Balkcom and senior Desirae Zine tied for 52nd place after posting identical scores of 238.
The Trojans will get right back to work this weekend when they play in the Lady red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The team will play a practice round on Sunday before playing 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 next Tuesday.

The Troy University men's golf team completed play in the Louisiana Tech Squire Creek Classic in Choudrant, La., on Tuesday, finishing 16th in the 16 team field.
The Trojans followed Monday's rounds of 310 and 300 with a final round of 310. The total score of 56-over par 920 left the Trojans 12 shots behind UNC Greensboro.
Sun Belt Conference power New Orleans won the tournament by posting an overall score of 10-under par 854. Southeastern Louisiana, which won the Sam Hall Invitational two weeks ago, finished second, nine shots behind the Privateers.
Other Sun Belt schools in the field included Middle Tennessee (867), South Alabama (882), UALR (887), Arkansas State (896) and North Texas (899).
The Trojans were led by junior Reid Merritt (75-74-77=226) who finished in a tie for 47th at 10-over par. Fellow junior Chase Whitehead (77-77-74=228) finished 57th.
Freshman Kyle Blackston (75-79-77=231) finished in a tie for 68th while senior Justin Eaves (83-75-82=240) and junior Ricky Casko (85-74-83=242) finished 81st and 83rd, respectively.
The Trojans will return to action October 18-20 at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga.
