Troy Golfers Get Tournaments Started

Troy University's men's and women's golf teams got play started on Monday in their respective tournaments.
Both teams, playing with heavy hearts after the passing of golf coach Matt Terry's mother, Pat, on Friday, played two rounds in their respective tournaments on Monday. Both will play single final rounds today.
The Troy women' playing in the USF-Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla., posted their first sub-300 score with a 298 in the second round. It was the fifth best round on the first day of play in the event among the 34 rounds played by the 17 teams.
The Trojans were led on the first day of play by freshman Sofie Bjorkman, whose rounds of 76-75 on the first day left her in a tied for 16th place with a total score of 151, seven-over par. Sophomore Haley Lawrence bounced back from a tough first round with a one-under par 71 in the second round.
Lawrence is tied for 39th with an overall score of 13-over par 157.
Nova Southeastern leads the tournament entering the final round of play after posting scores of 299-290 on the first day of play. Taylor Collins, a member of the Nova SE squad, tops the individual leaderboard with a score of five-under par 139.
Troy's 622 team score is tied with Sun Belt foe Arkansas State for seventh place entering the final round.
The Trojans opened play in the final round at 8:30 a.m., paired with fellow Sun Belt members Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic.
The Troy men's team, playing in the Louisiana Tech Squire Creek Classic, enters final round play today in 15th place in the 16-team field. The Trojans posted team scores of 310 and 300 in the first two rounds and trail tournament leader UNO by 43 shots entering the final round.
Troy's top performer on the opening day of play was Reid Merritt, who is tied for 41st overall after posting scores of 75-74 for a two round total of five-over par 149.
The Trojans enter the final round of play today within striking distance of Sun Belt foes Arkansas State and North Texas, trailing the Red Wolves by nine shots and the Mean Green by 12.
