Trojans Return to the Diamond for Fall Practice

“It good to be back out here and to get back in the swing of things,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. “We feel that we have a good system in place and we want to instill our philosophy, our terminology, and what we expect from our team into these guys during the fall. This is also a time for our guys to begin to develop the chemistry and start to pull together as a group.”
The Trojans are working on several fundamentals of the game as well as breaking in new players.
“In the fall, we try to stress the important aspects of the game that we coach to our new players,” Pierce said. “We as coaches also evaluate where we stand. So far, I have been pleased with our effort as a group. The hard work is coming from our returning guys as well as our new ones.”
With the departure of catcher Beau Brooks to the MLB draft, and a signee that didn't qualify, a big hole for the Trojans will be behind the plate.
“That spot is wide open,” Pierce said. “There are several players competing everyday for that spot and it is one that is very important to us.”
Pierce also has a cause for concern with his pitching staff.
“We have to and will rely heavily on our returning guys to help carry this team,” Pierce said. “We just have to get several guys healthy because several of our top arms are not at 100 percent.”
The Trojans will host the Ontario Blue Jays on Sunday, October 19 at 1:00 pm. The game will be played at Riddle-Pace Field and admission is free.
