Troy Heads To Birmingham

TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans volleyball program will look to keep their momentum going this weekend when they travel to Birmingham for the UAB/Samford Invitational.
Troy (8-4) has also won seven-of-eight matches since the opening weekend of the season when the Trojans went 1-2 They will take on Samford, Alabama A&M and UAB during the tournament; all the while trying to extend their four-match winning streak that started last weekend.
“We are looking forward to playing the teams we will be playing in Birmingham," Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "We have some pretty tough competition this weekend”
Since that opening weekend, Troy has claimed two tournament championships in three weekends; including the Tiger Invitational hosted by Memphis and the Courtyard by Marriott Chanticleer Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina. During that run, junior Meghan Gilroy and sophomore Megan Henderson were named Most Outstanding Players of the their respective tournaments. Senior Aubre Smith was named to three All-Tournament Teams, Henderson two and Gilroy two during the Trojans run over the last two weeks.
Troy, winners of their last match against Jacksonville State, will take on two powerhouses from the city of Birmingham in Samford and UAB.
“ We played a lot better this Tuesday than we did last Tuesday, and that's confirmed in the fact that we won," Kirkpatrick said. “It's always good to challenge us. We are looking forward to playing the teams we will be playing in Birmingham.
“We have some pretty tough competition this weekend. We will be playing two tough ranked teams and hopefully we can come out on top and keep doing what we are doing.”
The Trojans get the tournament started Friday against Samfod, before playing Alabama A&M and UAB on Saturday to conclude their last tournament before conference play begins next week.
