Overdue, But That's Just The Way It Is

Friday Morning
September 12
May it be said that I wish I could write on my blog much more than I have been able to these past few weeks. See Bruce Hornsby's "Just The Way It Is."
I am supremely confident that the shifting of my/our schedule the past 20 days has caused a lot of this lack of effort...according to Chuck Ash. Some may say that I had withdrawals after Wes Potter concluded his Heisman race. I didn't know what to do with myself, I'll admit. It meant a lot to me.
The week of the LSU game was an admitted downer. The team was really looking forward to playing those guys...in LSU...we didn't want it moved to Houston or Atlanta or New Orleans, like we heard might be possible. We want to play them in Baton Rouge.
It seems that four of our coaches have played in Tiger Stadium, and Coach Neal Brown says there is no atmosphere like it in college football. That is the type of place I want to play in.
At least it's been moved to November, and not canceled. In all honesty, I feel better about playing them then, than now. We will be much more polished, and they will be in between two SEC opponents.
Alcorn State is tomorrow night. It is a game that we have to come out and perform in. There will be no room for mercy. We have to become the great offense that we have the ability to be.
We have had 16 days off from playing an actual game. It feels like we went through another camp, and just a scrimmage in Tennessee. As a guy fighting for playing time, I took part in three straight days of full pads last week. I don't think I've done three straight days of full pads since I've been here, MAYBE last camp, but I tried to take advantage of the opportunity.
I know I got some experience, and I got better. All this extra practice made us all better. Better shape. Better mental sharpness. Better confidence. Better hunger. Better hunger? It may not be good English...but it has its purpose.
We still have to play this game Saturday, and anything can happen on any given day. But there is no reason we shouldn't be 2-0 going into Ohio State next week.
