Giving Props To “The Sound of the South”
Practice could have been better tonight during our "P.U.P.", or Pass Under Pressure Drill, and Team 11-on-11 drill. But the overtime competition period was clearly heated and was the highlight of tonight's practice.
The offense scored all three times we drove the 25-yards. The first with a field goal right between the uprights...the second on a power trap to the right that Chris Anderson ran almost untouched for a 25 yard score...and the third came on a sweep left that the defense disputed.
I don't know who ran it, but the defense says he got some of his body in, but not the ball. Too bad. So sad. The offensive line discussed the call, and decided it was in fact a touchdown. Good call. The resulting PAT was blocked by the defense.
This spawned calls from the offense and defense for double overtime. Coach Blakeney almost gave it to us, but we have two-a-days in the morning, and practice was already running long so we didn't...at least that was the only reason I could think of. Everyone was fired up and wanted more. We'll get plenty tomorrow.
I'd like to complement the "Sound of the South," Troy's band. I'm a big fan of the Sound, as I am a musician myself. I always like to hear them play whenever I can. But their playing isn't what I'm commending them on tonight. It's the hard work they're exhibiting on their own practice field this past week.
It is unbearably hot outside during the day, and the band is out right in the middle of it. We won't get into the heart of the day heat until we scrimmage on Saturday. The band has been in it all week, and anyone who says marching, playing an instrument, and scorching in a terrible sun doesn't take a dedicated, hard worker is uneducated at best.
Speaking of Wes Potter...I read an article on Rivals.com about the "Top 10 Heisman Candidates" going into the season, and I noticed that they left him out. I immediately contacted Rivals, and they assured me that Potter is so far above the other candidates that they are writing a complete article on him.
They gave Ohio State's Chris Wells the No. 1 spot, followed by some Tebow guy from Florida...I'm still trying to find some stats on these two guys.
Rivals also stated that Potter is so off the charts, that they are using a geometric equation to come up with a number better than 1 that has value between 0 and 1, and shows the depth of separation that Potter has between "0" and Wells.
That makes sense. Rivals would not release much more information to me, but I've heard rumors through my sources that this number will likely be called "Zerone".
That's exclusive information.
I spoke with Potter tonight, and he stressed the importance of letting his stats speak for themselves.
"You'll have to talk to my stats on that matter, Micah. I have no comment at this time."
See.
And also, "Happy Birthday Mom." It is his mother's birthday today. He sang Happy Birthday, and I played along on the piano over the phone...Can't beat that.
I'd also like to let everyone know that Drew Champlin, the Dothan Eagle's Troy beat writer, is in fact my hero. This has absolutely nothing to do with his mentioning of Wes Potter's (0 touchdowns, 0 rushing/passing yards) Heisman candidacy on his blog yesterday.
He's just my hero.
On a blog posting note, I try to write as much as I can, and as often as I can...something Chuck Ash has yet to understand...Thought I'd point that out.
Practice starts at 5:45 A.M. in the morning...I heard it's going to be hot tomorrow...and I'll take one from The Trammps' Disco Inferno: "Burn baby burn!"
It is time to sleep. Last two-a-day tomorrow. "I'll take that! I'll take that!"
And as always, Wes Potter for Heisman 2008.
