The Storm Is Coming
With less than one week left before the Trojans kickoff the 2008 football season at Middle Tennessee, it is save to say there is a storm coming.
I know, Tropical Storm Fay is headed this way, but that is not the storm I am talking about.
In reality, the storm started today with live web streaming of the season-opening soccer game from the Troy Track & Soccer Complex. The Trojans are hosting Faulkner in a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up in an effort to play before Fay arrives.
Assistant Media Relations Director Travis Jarome, who is himself a former soccer player and coach, will handle announcing duties for this inaugural web cast. Troy video coordinator Michael Frigge, in addition to making sure the web cast goes off without a hitch, will also provide commentary.
The game will also be the debut of the new JumpTV live stats application. Media relations student assistant Taylor Bryan, who serves as our primary soccer and softball contact, will handle live stats from the pressbox. This is being made possible thanks to a new wireless internet air card from Unicel.
This will be the first of many, many web streams and live stats for Troy athletics this fall. It is our intention to make every home football, volleyball and soccer match available. We'll also web stream through Troy GamePass all of Coach Larry Blakeney's Monday football news conferences as well as Trojan Talk each Tuesday night, whenever it does not conflict with a live event.
The great thing about all of the web streaming we will be doing is that it is available at a very reasonable price. You catch watch every single event we stream for just $9.95 per month. We'll also be placing free video on demand items similar to the one currently available from TrojanVision News previewing the 2008 football season.
Over the last few weeks we have added many new features to our web site, and we have more planned. We've held live chats during a couple of football scrimmages and plan to hold more chats in conjunction with other events.
Expect other new items in the coming days. These will include a new and improved “GameDay” page for football that will provide all of the information you will need to prepare for the upcoming opponent.
We will also be posting new “20 Questions With ...” features that our media relations students will producing. These should be fun items to help you get to know our student-athletes as well as other member of the Troy Athletics Department who you might not know much about.
Our partners at JumpTV, despite having been forced out of the offices in Sanford, Fla., this week by Fay, have new live stats applications coming this season for volleyball and football. I have not even seen these yet, but I am looking forward to see what they look like and how they work.
I also have to commend you, the fans of the Trojans. With very little promotion or effort, you have made Troy one of the top five schools in the JumpTV family in terms of photo sales over the last year. Virtually all of the photos you'll find in our photo galleries are available to purchase with high-quality printing and framing.
As we make our way through the coming sport seasons, virtually every photo we get from Kevin Glackmeyer and his folks in the Troy University photography department will be available online for you to purchase.
Hopefully, this time next week the Trojans will have “The Palladium” Trophy back on display in Coach Blakeney's office and will be preparing to face the defending national champion LSU Tigers in the second game of the season.
Remember to continue sending us your feedback on the things you see on our web site. Also feel free to offer suggestions for things you'd like to see in the future. You can e-mail me here.
Yes sir, there is definitely a storm coming.
Until next time,
