The Time Is Drawing Near

Hello All,

This time next week, we will be in Nashville, Tenn., getting ready for battle with the Blue Raiders. It is amazing how fast this summer, and fall camp, has gone by.

As a former player, this is my favorite time of year. I am very fortunate to be able to travel and work for the football team that I played with for five years. I still want to be on the field but I know that my time is up, so I'm not complaining about still traveling as a member of the sports information department.

My boss, Ricky Hazel, has worked harder than anyone in trying to get things ready for the upcoming week.

Next Thursday will be a great night in Murfreesboro when the Trojan faithful get to see all of the hard work and all of the pieces come together. All of the early morning meeting, practices, workouts, the energy, the thrill of hitting someone new, and everything that has been bottled up since the heart-breaking loss last season to FAU will be let loose.

It will also be the debut of the 2008 version of “The Sound of the South”. They are the best band in the nation. Ralph Ford and Mark Walker have done an excellent job.

The athletic department has been very busy over the past few days with football appreciation night, fan day, and tonight's watermelon night.

Saturday's Football Appreciation night was a fun night for everyone who attended. I didn't leave with the $10,000 but I had a beautiful date with me, so I couldn't complain too much. It was also great to see Roger Shultz in attendance. He still looks great and is smaller than I am, so congratulations to him on that. Now it is my goal to catch him.

Sunday was Troy's Fan Day. It was a day that all of our fall sports were at Trojan Arena signing autographs. While I was there, the lines were backed up the whole time. The long lines were for Coach Blakeney and for the cheerleaders. (BIG surprise there!)

On to tonight.......The Trojans took part in the 3^rd annual Watermelon Day. After a practice every year, the team is fed watermelon and I will say from experience, DELICIOUS!!!

James “Catfish” McAfree and his brother Jeff, take time out of their day to come to Troy and feed the team, and tonight was no different. Very tasty, and the team was very thankful.

I will be releasing a baseball story tomorrow on several former Trojans in the minor leagues ? stats and all.
