Clearing Out The Notebook
Practice started a half hour ago and I'm still in my office going strong. Jason and Taylor will have another notes and quotes package after practice tonight. Look for that sometime around 10 p.m.
I know a lot of Trojan fans are making their travel plans for the season, and many want to know where the team will be staying in various cities. That information is available on page 24 of the media guide (just $15 in the Troy Athletics Ticket Office), but here it is as well.
Middle Tennessee: Marriott Nashville Airport
LSU: Holiday Inn Select on Constitution Ave.
Ohio State: Columbus Marriott NW
Oklahoma State: Quality Inn, Stillwater
Florida Atlantic: Hilton-Ft. Lauderdale Airport
North Texas: Renaissance Dallas Hotel
Louisiana-Monroe: Holiday Inn
Please don't come knocking on my door during the night!
I'm sure that most of you saw on Bruce Feldman's Blog on ESPN.com earlier this month where he ranked Troy as having the second toughest non-conference schedule in the nation. He ranked Washington, with BYU, Oklahoma and Notre Dame all at home, as tougher than Troy.
Personally, I don't think that is nearly as tough as what the Trojans will face, and all on the road, but I am probably biased.
Kyle Wiggins sent me a new wallpaper for the web site this morning. This one features one of the Trojans' two Lombardi Award Watch List players, linebacker Boris Lee. We are going to have to be careful with Boris because I don't want him to get the big head. Fortunately, there isn't much chance of that because he is a very well grounded guy.
I also added Micah Grimes' “Wes Potter for Heisman” graphic to the wallpaper gallery.
With our blogs still growing and evolving, I am trying to catch up on a lot of things that have happened over the summer.
One item that needs to be noted is that assistant football coach Chad Scott and his wife Shambrica welcomed the birth of their first child, daughter Kori Cherrell, on July 23. Mother and daughter are both doing well.
On the non-football side of things, Troy University tennis coach Eric Hayes will host a mini clinic at the Lunsford Tennic Center August 4-6. The cost for the clinic is $50. For more information, contact Coach Hayes at ehayes@troy.edu or 334-670-3649.
The Troy Athletic department recently added a new administrative staff member. Justin Kume is the new Compliance Coordinator and will work with Director of Compliance Kit Alewine. Justin comes to Troy from Florida State where he was a graduate assistant for compliance. He completed his undergraduate degree at Muskingum College in Ohio where he interned in the Sports Information office after completing his football eligibility.
Another member of the Troy Athletics Administration staff, Sandy Atkins, was recently selected to represent the Sun Belt Conference on the NCAA Amateurism Cabinet. The NCAA has recently restructured its Committees and Cabinets. Two Committees ? Leadership and Legislative ? feed the Board of Directors and six Cabinets feed the Committees.
This is a great honor for Sandy to be able to represent the Sun Belt Conference on a National Committee.
Keep your feedback coming.
Until tomorrow,
RH
