Hey! We're Practicing, Too!
While football gets the most media attention, there are several other sports that are kicking off their preparations for upcoming seasons in the next few weeks.
Women's soccer reports next Wednesday and will go through a picture day of their own. The volleyball team will also get started next week when their players arrive to begin fall practice.
But while fall sports are getting ready for their seasons, spring sports are getting ready for off-season practice, specifically, the softball program and head coach Melanie Davis have announced their slate of Fall games.
“We're excited about the opposition in these contests, it should give us a good opportunity to evaluate our squad and give our kids an opportunity to both show us what they can do and implement our system of play,” Davis said.
The NCAA allows teams eight games or scrimmages during the fall semester. This year the Trojans will get things started in late September and stretch their schedule all the way until late November when they wrap up the session with an Alumni game.
“An additional plus of playing junior colleges in the Fall is it allows us to evaluate prospects from the junior colleges,” she said.
While the Fall is a time for competition, perhaps more importantly it's a time of learning.
“The fall is a critical evaluation and teaching period for
us. We try to determine where newcomers stand and where our returners stand. We
prioritize what we need to work on and perfect before Christmas Break,”
