Q&A Series With Volleyball: Part 5 of 5
7/17/2008 5:00:00 AM | Volleyball
The Troy University media relations staff recently had a chance to sit down with the five incoming freshmen on the 2008 volleyball team for a Question and Answer session.
Today is the final part of a five part series, featuring Emily Allen from Daphne, Alabama and Bayside Academy.
Mackley was a four-year letterwinner at Bayside Academy, where she helped
lead Bayside to four consecutive state championships. Allen was named to the
Class 2A All-Tournament Team for her final three seasons of her prep
career, and was selected as team captain during her senior season. During that senior season, Allen recorded 322 kills, 73 blocks, 105 aces and 342
digs in leading Bayside to the state title. She was selected to participate
in the AHSAA North/South All-Star volleyball game (July 2007), and was selected to The Mobile Press Register "Super 12" Second Team during
her junior season. Allen was selected to The Mobile Press Register "Super 12" First
Team during her senior season. She was also selected to The Birmingham News All-State
First Team during senior season, after being named Honorable Mention
during junior season. Both of Allen's parents are alumni and letter winners of the Troy University system. Her mother, Brenda, was a volleyball player for the Trojans, while her father, Joe, is a former baseball player.
Media Relations: Why did you choose Troy University?
Allen: Both my parents attended Troy, so that sparked my interest. But, I ended up deciding on Troy because I loved how nice the people were, and the small town atmosphere. I also wanted to be near home, and major in Elementary Education- so everything worked itself out.
MR: What are you looking forward to this season (in volleyball or in school)?
EA: One of the first things I noticed on my visit to Troy was how close all of the girls were. I can't wait to be a part of that! Also, just playing volleyball with new people will be a fun experience.
MR: What do you like to do when you are not on the volleyball court?
EA: I like laying out in the sun, swimming, jamming to music in the car, art, watching movies, and laughing (a lot).
MR: What was your first impression of your head coach? And what are your feelings now?
EA: My first impression is still the same as how I feel now. You can tell that Coach Sonny (Kirkpatrick) wants everyone to be the best they can be, and he'll push you until you he gets the results he wants. Regardless of what he has to do to get you there.
MR: What are you going to do after graduation?
EA: I plan on being a Stewardess for an airline for a couple of years before I settle down at home (in Daphne), where I will be living in a small cottage on Mobile Bay and teach second grade.
MR: If you could describe your time at Troy in one word, what would it be?
EA: Busy! We are always on the move.
Each Q&A
