7/15/2008 5:00:00 AM | Volleyball
The Troy University media relations staff recently had a chance to sit down with the five incoming freshmen on the 2008 volleyball team for a Question and Answer session.
Today is part two of a five part series, featuring Erin Kissling from York, Pennsylvania and Central York High School.
Kissling was a three-year letterwinner at Central York High School, where she was named First Team All-York County. She was also named First Team
All-District III, and First Team All-Pennsylvania during her prep
career. Following her senior season, she received the Shipley Award, which is the highest
athletics achievement in York County and she also received the United
States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award. Kissling was selected to play in the District and Senior All-Star games, while being named team captain during her senior season.
Media Relations: Why did you choose Troy University?
Kissling: I chose Troy University because it has everything I need to become successful. I can compete at a high level of volleyball while getting a great education. The people are so nice, and I really like the South.
MR: What are you looking forward to this season (in volleyball or in school)?
EK: This season I am looking forward to becoming a better player, becoming close with my teammates, and helping the team to a winning season!
MR: What do you like to do when you are not on the volleyball court?
EK: I like spending time with my family and friends, fishing, hunting, country music, tanning, and watching chick flicks.
MR: What was your first impression of your head coach? And what are your feelings now?
EK: My first impression of Coach Sonny (Kirkpatrick) was that he wants us to play to the best of our ability and to be good people on and off the court. My feelings are the same now and I am excited to be coached by him.
MR: What are you going to do after graduation?
EK: After graduation I plan on staying in the south and becoming a kindergarten teacher, starting a family, and coaching volleyball.
MR: If you could describe your time at Troy in one word, what would it be?
EK: Rewarding.
Tomorrow, the media relations office will sit down with Brittany McClelland. On Thursday, Laura Mackley will be featured, followed by Emily Allen on Friday. Each Q&A Session will be archived on the volleyball home page, beginning with Monday's sit-down with Kassondra Horan.
The Trojans open camp August 4 in preparation for their season-opening contest against the University of Colorado on August 29.
