MONTGOMERY?Troy
University Trustee Milton McGregor presented a $1 million check to Chancellor
Jack Hawkins, Jr., Wednesday night as the initial gift toward a new
multipurpose arena to be built on the Troy Campus.
The check presentation was made at Milton
and Pat McGregor's Montgomery
home with members of the Troy University Board of Trustees, the Troy University
Foundation Board of Directors and invited guests in attendance.
“We appreciate Milton and Pat McGregor's willingness to invest
in the future of Troy
University,” Chancellor Hawkins said. “This gift is an important
first step as we determine the feasibility of building such an arena for TROY. It will be a
challenge, but with support such as the McGregors have shown, we can make the
dream a reality.”
The University's 2005 strategic plan calls for the University
to replace Trojan Arena, which was built
in 1962. No timetable for completion has been developed, and a final price tag
for the project has not been determined.
McGregor's fellow trustees said the gift will make a
tremendous difference in the success of the project.
“This gracious gift demonstrates the commitment that Mr.
McGregor and his family have to improving the quality of life for all
Alabamians,” said Trustee Gerald Dial, chair of the Long-Range Planning
Committee for the Board of Trustees. “The multipurpose arena will be something
that Troy University will benefit from for years
to come, and we greatly appreciate Mr. McGregor's generosity.”
Charles Nailen, a member of the Board of Trustees and the
Troy University Foundation Board of Directors, said, “Mr. McGregor's gift is a
testament to his deep commitment to Troy
University and its vision
for the future. Troy
University is dedicated
to providing the best possible facilities for its students and a new multipurpose
arena will be a tremendous asset to the entire University community.”
