The Troy Trojans are coming off of a conference sweep of Western Kentucky and look to carry that momentum into a non-conference game tonight at 6:30 pm with UAB.
"We always have taken pride in playing the in-state games," coach Bobby Pierce said. "These are big games to the people in the state and our team takes pride in trying to be the best team in Alabama."
UAB won the opening contest in 2007 with a 7-6 win in Birmingham. Troy hit three home runs in the game but that was not enough.
The Trojans bounced back with a 20-15 win in a shoot-out in troy later in the season. Troy currently owns a 18-15 series lead over the Blazers but UAB has won 11-of-17 at home against Troy.
Troy will send Mike Powers (1-0, 5.17 ERA) to the hill while UAB counters with Johnny Volk (0-0, 7.90 ERA).
First pitch is set for 6:30 pm. The game can be heard locally on 94.7 WTBF or on the internet at Troytrojans.com. Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller will handle the play-by-play.
