Looking Back at the FIU Game

It's been a pleasure talking to the people who recognize who I am in public (spell check told me I should put “who I is”), and tell me they read my blog. I appreciate the words of encouragement, and for supporting my meanderings.
On a note to the devoted fans of one Wes Potter, and his Heisman Campaign:
He will not be resurrecting his campaign; though if he wanted to, he would no doubt win. But, I have received word through my sources that Potter is in talks to give me a private interview, on camera, to address why he pulled out of the Heisman race.
Of course, any developments will be covered, and posted as soon as possible. It has become evident that Potter built quite a following in the month he entertained the idea of the Heisman, and I feel it is only right to update you on his thoughts.
What's that? Who is Chuck Ash, you ask? Wow. You must be psychic, because I was just about to tell you.
This is Chuck Ash:
Chuck is sporting his sunglasses in this picture. He doesn't wear them at night, contradicting the song Corey Heart sang about him.
The investment firm Charles Schwab has made an effort to steal Chuck's moniker from him, but he had it first. Many of you might not know this, but Chuck is straight thug on the side. You know, posted up late night at the club...rolling with his 22's...speakers all blaring...DJ-Charlemagne, holler at your boy...
So, now that we got the serious information out of the way...
We had a pretty good week of practice leading up to FIU. We knew that this team would be coming in on a three-game winning streak; something they haven't done in several years. They are athletic, and well coached.
Their H.C., Mario Cristobal, recruited me while he was at Miami, as their offensive line coach. He is a straight-laced, excitable man. I liked how he coached, and I think their team does too. It shows by going from pretty bad, to challenging in the conference race.
No Jamie Hampton. No Danny Franks. Coaches stressed the mind set of stepping up when others go down. I can still hear Coach Blakeney saying, “Close ranks.”
Steve Adams and Wes Potter stepped in on the offensive line, and Levi Brown stepped in at quarterback. The pocket remained intact all but once on the night, and Levi remained in the pocket nailing some beautiful passes to a lot of different receivers.
I can't say enough about J.J. (Jerrel Jernigan). This guy has stepped up his game each time he steps on the field. He has unbelievable powers, “comparable to Wonder Boy,” as Tenacious D says. “What powers you ask? How ?bout the power of flight? That do anything for you? That's levitation, homes.”
And if those legs aren't good enough, the man goes and throws a touchdown.
He and I were sitting on the bench after that long run he had, and it came on the Jumbotron before CSS went to commercial, and we both looked up at it...so, I says to ?em, I says to ?em,“ Oh, you think you're bad now?” I laughed. Talk about Heisman...
We had some problems running the ball, but that's what opened up our passing game. We needed Levi to come out of the gates firing, and he did just that. The experience “On the Line” (mwaaa-haha) gave him time to set up, and find his receivers, and the receivers did their job getting open, and blocking as well. Troy 33, FIU 23.
I'm not going to go in depth about it, because I know things take time. But, I am increasingly disappointed with students leaving the game after halftime, and even more so when the game is no where close to being decided.
The section was packed to begin the game, but there was a highly noticeable difference after the break. Thank you to those who stayed.
Random Song of the Day ? “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band.
Reminds me of where I grew up, and I'm sure many of you Alabamians can understand this song as well.
I love practices on Monday because we practice at night. Which, at this point, the heat is all but gone. Yes! I can walk around campus without sweating!
