Trojans Lose to Owls in Four

TROY, Ala ? The Trojan volleyball team ended the Gamecock invitational with a lose in four against Rice. Troy started its match off strong but could not hold up as they fell to the Owls, 24-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-24.
The Trojans were only down by 6 kills, while Rice (5-5) had 62 kills as a team. The Owls were led by Jennifer McClean, who recorded 17 kills for a .192 attack percentage for the team.
Troy (4-6) started off strong in the first match against Rice with a win of 30-24, but was unable to maintain momentum for the next 3 games.
As a team, Troy hit only .139 percent and Jean McCarty led the Trojans in kills with 15. Freshman Megan Henderson had the highest hitting percentage in the match with .429 but only recorded seven kills.
Troy ended the South Carolina Nike Gamecock Invitational with a record of 0-3. The Trojans fought hard against teams Appalachian State, South Carolina, and Rice.
“During the tournament we played well, and I'm happy in the direction we are going,” coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “The South Carolina game was tough, however we were able to hold our own.” “We are a good team, and it has shown with the growth of this program.” “We will just plan to continue working hard throughout the season”
The Trojans will be back in action on September 10th, as they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Alabama State.
